ITY, which stands for Isaiah Temple Youth, is an active youth group open to all 9th-12th graders in the Temple Isaiah community and for friends from other synagogues. Led by high school students, ITY is dedicated to establishing a strong connection for Jewish youth of the Los Angeles area to their heritage.
ITY is a subdivision of NFTY, the National Federation of Temple Youth, which is made up of temple youth groups (TYG's) all over the nation. This reform Jewish youth movement has provided countless Jewish teens with invaluable lessons in leadership, friendship, and social awareness. NFTY SoCal, which is also run by teenage leaders, holds weekend retreats for all members in the Southern California region.
Each month, ITY brings teenagers from all over Los Angeles together to participate in fun, secular and traditional activities (some examples include a ski trip, creative Shabbat service, comedy club, Disneyland trip, etc). The exciting events facilitated by this youth group help to nurture a unique Jewish experience for all teenagers in the community.
Youth Groups Are Worth the Fight by Lisa Greengard
Temple Isaiah 's Junior Youth Group is for our Temple 's 7 th and 8 th graders and friends from other synagogues. J.I.T.Y. offers exciting events such as outdoor recreation activities (hiking and rock climbing), social events (progressive dinners, teambuilding events, amusement parks) and a way to meet other Jewish teens with similar interests.
The Junior Youth Group also shares an exciting Shabbaton weekend, which is an exchange program with 7 th and 8 th graders from Temple Solel in San Diego . We have the opportunity to share social and community service events in Los Angeles with the San Diego students, who stay in our homes in January. J.I.T.Y. continues the adventure when we travel south to stay with Temple Solel students for the weekend in April.
The Junior Youth Group at Temple Isaiah introduces Jewish youth group life to 7 th and 8thg graders and prepares them for an exciting and eventful opportunities in high school as a active member of Isaiah's Senior Youth Group for grades 9-12.
